Abstract
Several types of commercial Hg arcs and low pressure arcs were investigated with regard the continuous background in the λ4358 region. The background intensity measurements were made relative to the λ4358 line making use of the Rowland grating ghosts, using a photo electric spectrograph.
It was found that the relative intensity of the λ4358 group of lines in the Hg spectrum varies almost an order of magnitude with the different vapor pressures used in the various sources.
An intense photograph of the Raman spectrum of CS2 has been obtained in which ν3, Δν~1520 cm−1 appears. This line is forbidden for a linear molecule and is only about 1/1000 the intensity of the strongest line in the spectrum.
