Abstract
A thick overdense nondissipative plasma slab with steep density gradients at the critical regions is shown to be totally transparent for a p-polarized light, within the framework of linear theory. This basically new effect is due to resonant excitation of surface modes, which provide perfect coupling between the incident and transmitted radiation. Inclusion of dissipative processes, e.g., resonance absorption, reduces the transmission below 100%. However, it still remains substantially above the classical value.
