Abstract
The optical transfer function of phase conjugation is derived by Fourier transforming the coupled mode equations of parametric interaction. Also, an equation describing the longitudinal location of the conjugate image is derived from the phase transfer characteristics of the optical transfer function to analyze longitudinal image spread. It is found that the image quality of a phase conjugate mirror is limited by the temporal frequency bandwidths and by the thickness of the nonlinear medium.
