Abstract
Fractal geometry is used to investigate the propagation of an optical beam in a weakly fluctuating multiscale medium characterized by a power-law spectrum. Of particular interest here is the evolution of the beam as it traverses the medium. We model this medium by using a series of phase screens, each described by a band-limited fractal function. The average intensity distribution is calculated by using a combination of Bragg-diffraction considerations and the Fresnel propagator. We display the beam evolution here.
