Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Editor-in-Chief P. Scott Carney introduces the Journal’s newest Topical Editor, Jinli Suo.

© 2018 Optical Society of America

I am pleased to introduce Jinli Suo as the newest JOSA A topical editor. Professor Suo is a recognized leader in computational imaging and computer vision. Her work provides numerous examples of the kind of groundbreaking research at the intersection of optics and image processing that I called for in my 2016 editorial [1]. She has made important contributions in ptychographic microscopy, single-pixel imaging, fluorescence microscopy, and many other areas of current interest in our community. Her work may be found in the pages and webpages of OSA journals Optics Express, Optics Letters, and, of course, JOSA A. She joins us to add strength in our coverage of image processing alongside Amit Ashok and Sam Thurman and to cover machine vision as Masahiro Yamaguchi prepares to step down after six years of outstanding service as topical editor for that area. I am deeply grateful for our esteemed new editor and for years of wisdom and hard work from our departing colleague. Please join me in welcoming Prof. Suo by sending us your very best optical research in image processing and machine vision.

Jinli Suo received her B.E. degree in computer science from Shandong University, China, in 2004, and Ph.D. from the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, in 2010. After graduation, she joined the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University, China, where she currently serves as an associate professor. Her research interests mainly include computer vision and computational imaging and she has published over 80 academic papers in this field. Topics include extended statistical face aging modeling, depth-of-field photography, motion blur removal, high-throughput microscopy, and single-pixel imaging. She has been issued 20 patents.
