Abstract
Surfaces of constant brightness in x, y, Y space have been determined for several competing color-difference formulas. The computation of these surfaces has been based on (1) a theory of color vision due to Schrödinger and (2) the recently developed capability to compute geodesics between arbitrary points in color 3 space. Comparison with experimentally determined surfaces of constant brightness provides information on the validity of color-difference formulas. Of six formulas considered, only the FMC 1 formula and a modification of the FMC 2 formula were found to generate constant-brightness surfaces that are in agreement with experimental results.
