Abstract
In the coronagraph designed by the Lyot principle, the energy of the boundary diffraction wave is concentrated by the field lens into a circular zone around the image of the boundary of the objective lens. In this paper the effects of boundary diffraction waves are discussed analytically. It is deduced that the width of the concentrated zone is of the order of the diameter of the Airy disk formed by an aperture of the size of the occulting disk, for the case of a point light source on the optical axis.
