Abstract
Bubbles can be formed in glasses because of high-intensity laser irradiation. During this laser irradiation process, the temperature of the glass increases, causing gases to be released because of components decomposing or evaporating. The temperature rise of the irradiated sample can decrease the solubilty of these gases, and thus bubbles can appear. The nature of exsolved gases migrating into bubbles formed in silicate glasses because of high-powered laser treatment has not been indicated earlier in the literature on the basis of measured characterization data. This study has used Raman microprobe analysis to obtain such information.
