Abstract
It is desirable for the purge air of optics of an infrared spectrometer to be free of CO2 as well as water so as not to lose energy in the CO2 absorption region. This is presumed to be done by a commerical instrument company, using activated alumina to remove CO2 as well as water. The use of a regenerative desiccant has the advantage over reagents such as soda lime since the alumina is reactivated cyclically to remove the CO2 as well as water. It is the purpose of this paper to show which common desiccants are useful in this respect.
