The visual measurements used to verify the performance of the fiber Bragg grating sensor used in [1] are inaccurate. The points at which deflections were measured using digital photogrammetry are not coincident with the points at which measurements were made by the fiber Bragg grating sensor. The efficacy of the fiber Bragg grating sensor to measure airfoil deformations accurately is therefore unsubstantiated by this work.
