The feature issue on Digital Holography and 3D Imaging presents twenty-six papers, covering many timely topics, including integral imaging and holographic display systems, computer generated holograms, digital holographic microscopy, and biomedical and other applications in particle tracking, security, and materials science. It also contains several review articles on quantitative phase imaging, holographic microspectroscopy, recent advances in digital holography, and 3D object recognition. Many of the papers in this issue represent in-depth elaboration of topics presented at the OSA Topical Meeting, Digital Holography and 3D Imaging (DH), held in Kohala Coast, Hawaii, in April of 2013, as well as those from the Optical Information Processing and Holography subconference of the OPTIC 2013 (Optics & Photonics Taiwan, International Conference), held in the National Central University, Chungli, Taiwan, in December of 2013. We thank and applaud all the authors in this feature issue as well as the participants in the DH and OPTIC conferences for being part of the exciting advances in science and technology of holography and 3D imaging.
