Abstract
Conventional scanners for diode-laser printers use an expensive precision correcting lens/mirror to achieve acceptable spot size (focusing) and linearity. For the scanner in this paper, a hologram, designed with the ray-tracing method, inexpensively provides the linearization and focusing functions. The hologram is recorded and reconstructed using spherical wave fronts (recorded by a He–Ne laser and reconstructed by a diode laser). The prototype's measured linearity error was under ±110 μm and the spot size (half-intensity beamwidth) was under 95 μm for a span (scan width) of 300 mm.
