Abstract
Rib waveguides have been fabricated, and transmission loss has been measured as a function of rib width in the millimeter-wavelength region. In our work, the transmission loss consists of leakage caused by TE ↔ TM mode coupling and dielectric loss. The existence of such leaky modes and their cancellation effects has been experimentally verified. The measured leakage became greater than the dielectric loss. The experimental results have also been compared with our prior published theory, and it was found that our analysis tends to underestimate the leakage loss.
