Abstract

We demonstrate the implementation of a quantum repeater cell with photons from two free-space-coupled ⁴⁰Ca⁺ ions. We generate asynchronous ion-photon entanglement and transfer it to photon-photon entanglement by a quantum gate and a measurement.
