Abstract
We present a new type of material for use in integrated optics, based on photopolymer matrices doped with non linear optical (NLO) molecules. In such materials the photopolymerization is accompanied by an increase in density as well as in viscosity. We have taken advantage of the density variation to write a spatial modulation of the refractive index and of the viscosity increase to freeze the orientation of the NLO push-pull chromophores. We have written photoinduced optical waveguides in photopolymers by using an original self-propagation method. For the non linear optical properties, we present a long life-time periodically poled structures.
