Abstract
There are many methods to scan laser spots on an optical tape to record and reproduce data. CREO threem RCA A high data transfer rate is one of the most important parameters for digital data storage systems. It is difficult to control a mechanical scanner at a high scanning velocity in a way that the laser spot can trace a high density data pattern precisely. We used an acousto-optic deflector(AOD) for scanning. The advantage of using an AOD over a slide motor or a polygonal mirror or a rotary drum is that the laser spot can be deflected at a high speed with simple and compact hardware. An AOD does not need a precise mechanical actuator nor a position sensor, it only needs optics and an electronic controller. In this paper a precise tracking method using an electronically controlled AOD is discussed.
