Abstract
One of the most striking experimental signatures of the efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG) effect in modified chemical-vapor deposition (MOCVD) germanosilicate glass is its critical dependence on the intrafiber IR intensity used for preparation. Previous work has shown that this threshold is extremely well defined in the fiber as well as in the bulk MOCVD material and is of the order of 10 GW/cm2. This critical behavior and the process of SHG have been explained in terms of an optically induced charge delocalization transition.1,2
