Director alignment methods for ferroelectric liquid crystal matrix displays

Abstract

A method for obtaining good SmC* alignment is described. The method utilizes a high-pretilt surface treatment, where the pretilt angle is of the opposite sign on the two cell surfaces and materials that possess the IN*–A–C* phase sequence.
