Abstract
We have used a high-power subpicosecond laser to produce a high-temperature high-density plasma. Under subpicosecond illumination, absorption of the laser light and plasma x-ray emission can occur at densities higher than critical. This can lead to the production of x-ray pulses with rapid rise and fall times.1,2
