Abstract
In addition to the well-established methods of degenerated four-wave mixing (DFWM) and of third-harmonic generation (THG), third-order susceptibilities χ(3) can be investigated by coherent anti-Stokes mmap scattering (GARS). In general, the CARS susceptibility given by χ(3)(-ωA, ωp, ωp—ωs) = χNR + χR/(δ+iγ), ωp — (ωp — ωs) = δ, where γ is the Raman lineividth, contains the nonRaman resonant part χΝR, which is the analogue of the χ(3) contributions measured by THG and by DFWM, respectively, and the Raman resonant part χR which is significant enhanced if wp - ws approaches the frequency ωR of a Raman active vibration.
