Abstract
We demonstrate a type of highly tunable THz metamaterials (MMs) employing conventional metal-based complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) [1] strongly coupled to graphene ribbon (GR) plasmonic resonators [2]. The schematic of a unit cell of such a hybrid MM design is shown in Fig. 1(a). The CSRR LC resonance has localized and enhanced electric field in the capacitor gap, whereas the surface plamson resonance of the GR has localized and enhanced electric field near the edges [3]. Therefore, such a hybrid structure in Fig. 1(a) allows for efficient near-field coupling between the two resonators, and the spectral response of the hybrid structure can be tuned by electrostatically varying the carrier density (n) in the GR.
