Abstract
Mid-IR laser sources have important potential applications in remote sensing, vibrational spectroscopy, trace detection, and medicine. Among the transition metal (TM)-doped II-VI compound semiconductors studied for room- temperature (RT) operated broadly tunable mid-infrared (2000-4500 nm) laser sources it has been pointed that Cr2+ ions doped materials seem to be highly favourable laser systems . Cr2+: ZnSe is the most studied member of this new class of lasers [1], in particular because it has a great potential to realize electrically pumped laser structures [2].
